A hotel's Instagram DM and the public comment under its own post carry very different risks, and GuestMaker's inbox treats them differently, not the same.
Ask any social media manager which channel scares them most, and it's rarely the DM. It's the comment. A DM is a conversation between a guest and a hotel, visible to the two of them. A comment sits underneath the hotel's own post, visible to everyone who scrolls past it, and it stays there indefinitely, a permanent transcript of how the brand responded, or didn't, in public. Most inbox tools that bolt Instagram and Facebook onto a WhatsApp-style AI setup don't seem to notice the difference. They apply the same "AI drafts, AI sends" rule to both, because from an engineering standpoint a DM and a comment are just two more message types to route through the same pipe. From a hotel's reputational standpoint, they are not remotely the same risk, and the way GuestMaker's Meta Socials inbox is built reflects that, rather than treating consolidation as the whole job.
Instagram DMs, Instagram comments, and Facebook Messenger all arrive through a single shared webhook, verified by its own signature check, and they land in one Meta Socials inbox tab. That much is standard consolidation, the kind every social inbox tool promises. What matters more is how the inbox gets filtered once everything is in one place: All, DMs, Comments, and Needs Approval. That fourth filter is the tell. It isn't a generic "unread" or "flagged" bucket, it's a queue of exactly the messages that are one click from becoming public and haven't been reviewed yet. A social manager can ignore the DM filter for an entire shift and nothing breaks, because DMs are handling themselves. Needs Approval is the one tab that can't be left unattended, because it's the only place where the AI is waiting on a person before it acts.
Most hotel groups don't run one Instagram account. They run one per property, sometimes one per brand, occasionally a group account layered on top. GuestMaker's Meta Socials integration supports more than one connected Instagram or Facebook account inside the same inbox, and every message is tagged to the specific account it came from. That sounds like a small detail until a group with several properties tries to manage Instagram and Facebook Messenger for hotels from a handful of different logins, a handful of browser tabs, a handful of people who each only know their own property's tone. One inbox with account tagging means a single social manager, or a single AI configuration, can operate across all of them without guessing which reply belongs to which pool bar.
Here's the actual mechanism, not the marketing version of it. When a comment lands on one of the connected accounts, GuestMaker's AI drafts a reply the same way it would draft a WhatsApp response. But a comment reply never sends itself. It sits as a draft until a staff member reviews it, edits it if needed, and explicitly publishes it, or dismisses it. That's the whole mechanism: draft, human, publish. No auto-post path exists for comments, and that's a deliberate asymmetry, not a missing feature. A DM that goes slightly wrong is a private, recoverable moment between the hotel and one guest. A comment reply that goes slightly wrong is visible on the hotel's own post and can be screenshotted before anyone on staff sees the notification, even if the reply is later deleted. AI comment reply approval exists because that failure mode is public and harder to undo than a mistake in a private DM.
Direct messages don't carry that same approval gate. Inside GuestMaker, an Instagram or Messenger DM follows the same AI-autonomy rules as WhatsApp, because the risk profile matches WhatsApp's, a private exchange the AI can handle end to end within whatever guardrails the hotel has already set for that channel. Bolting one blanket "review everything" policy onto both DMs and comments would either slow every private conversation to a crawl, or, more realistically, train staff to rubber-stamp the approval queue without reading it, which defeats the point of having a gate at all.
The approval requirement is specific to comments, not a general demotion of the whole channel. The same room-card flow used elsewhere in GuestMaker, photos alongside a consolidated plain-text summary a guest can actually act on, also works over Instagram and Messenger DMs, governed by the same toggle that controls it on WhatsApp. A guest who slides into a hotel's Instagram DMs asking about a room, the way a real booking conversation increasingly starts there, can get the same structured answer a WhatsApp guest gets, not a stripped-down version because the channel happens to be Meta rather than WhatsApp. The distinction GuestMaker draws isn't "Meta channels get less AI." It's "public Meta surfaces get a human between the AI and the send button, private ones don't."
It's worth being precise about what this is and isn't. This is not a full comment moderation suite that hides spam, filters abuse, or auto-deletes bot replies under a giveaway post, and nothing here should be read as claiming that. What exists is narrower, and for a hotel brand, arguably more important: an Instagram comment moderation AI whose job is specifically to draft the hotel's own public replies, and to never post one without a person confirming it first. That's a smaller promise than "AI moderates your comments," and it's the honest one. A hotel that wants a review layer on its own outbound public replies gets exactly that. A hotel hoping for automated spam cleanup on inbound comments should know that isn't what this queue does.
That narrowness is also what keeps the approval queue usable day to day. Because DMs never enter it, Needs Approval stays small enough that a staff member can actually clear it during a shift, instead of drowning in every private message the AI already handled correctly on its own. The gate is sized to the actual risk, which is what keeps it from being ignored the way an over-broad "review everything" queue usually ends up ignored.
The other tell that this isn't a bolted-on afterthought is the reporting behind it. Meta Socials gets its own analytics dashboard covering 18 metrics, the same shape already built for WhatsApp analytics inside GuestMaker's inbox. A channel that gets the abbreviated version of a product usually gets the abbreviated version of the reporting too, a handful of vanity counts and nothing a marketing director could actually run a quarter on. Giving Instagram and Facebook the same analytics depth as WhatsApp is a signal about how seriously the channel is treated internally, not just how polished it looks externally.
None of this replaces judgment. A hotel still decides its own tone, and still trains its team to catch the reply that's technically correct but wrong for the moment. The final "publish" click on every public comment still belongs to a person, not the model. What GuestMaker's Meta Socials inbox does is put the decision in the right place: automatic where the risk is private and recoverable, reviewed where it's public and permanent. It's the same safety posture GuestMaker applies everywhere else AI meets a real guest, pointed at the one channel most inbox tools still treat as identical to every other message type, when it plainly isn't.

An AI-issued booking link isn't a campaign link. Here's exactly how hotel booking link tracking works across every channel, and where it honestly still breaks.
Most hotel chatbots escalate every question they can't perfectly answer. This one only escalates when staff actually have to do something specific about it.
A hotel inbox built to be helpful about everything ends up drafting replies to shipping notices. This one triages first, in four explicit paths, not one AI guess.
